Florida Hurricane Claim Checklist
Use this free checklist before you call your insurance company. Document damage properly to protect your claim.
- Take clear photos and videos of all damage before cleaning up
- Photograph roof, ceilings, walls, flooring, windows, doors, fence, garage, and exterior structures
- Save receipts for emergency repairs, tarps, supplies, hotels, and cleanup
- Prevent additional damage when safe to do so (e.g., tarping a roof, shutting off water)
- Do not throw away damaged items until documented or inspected
- Write down the date and approximate time the damage was discovered
- Request a full copy of your insurance policy if you do not have one
- Ask your insurer exactly what deductible applies (Hurricane vs. All Peril)
- Keep a written log of every phone call, adjuster name, and claim number
- Consider getting an independent repair estimate from a licensed Florida contractor
Check your deductible first
Before you assume a claim makes sense, estimate whether your damage may exceed your hurricane deductible.
